The In Memoriam portion of the awards show honors key Hollywood players who have died since the last awards show.Perry's absence from the segment was especially noticeable because he had a role (Wayne Maunder) in Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' which was up for 10 awards, including best picture. 'Parasite' made history by taking home that award.In a statement to USA TODAY, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences explained why Perry and others were left out of the segment.' The Academy receives hundreds of requests to include loved ones and industry colleagues in the Oscars In Memoriam segment,' the statement read. 'An executive committee representing every branch considers the list and makes selections for the telecast based on limited available time.'

Disney actor Cameron Boyce also wasn't recognized.Boyce, who was known for his roles in 'Jessie' and 'Descendants,' was 20 when he died unexpectedly in July 2019 from epilepsy.Sid Haig and Tim Conway, both of whom also died in 2019, were missing from the telecast as well.Fans quickly took notice of the stars' absences in the tribute and expressed their disappointment with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the Oscars.'
